20 Things you didn't know until now


There are things that we deal with every day that we don't even wonder about the hows and whys of them. Did you know that Barbie has a full name and parents too? The original color of the statue of liberty? The atoms a glass of water contains or how does rain have a smell? 


Well... There's a story behind everything. Let's look at these 20 facts that will surprise you!


1. The full name of Barbie

Did you know that Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts? She even has parents from Wisconsin who are Margaret and George Roberts. 


2. The original color of the Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is entirely made of copper. It was the color of a coin when built and became completely green in 1920 due to oxidation. 


3.  The atoms in a glass of water

Glass water contains more atoms than the glasses of water in all the oceans of the earth. 


4. Snow that tastes like watermelon

Some mountain peaks contain snow that smells and even tastes like watermelon. 


5. Rows of an ear of corn

The number of rows an ear of corn has is always even. Usually 16 and approximately 800 kernels.



6. The smell of rain


Did you know that you can actually smell the rain? If you haven't, it smells like a mix of plant oils, Bacteria, and Ozone.



7. Say not Cheeeese but Prunes??

The Victorians considered smiling for pictures is for the uneducated. So, they said "Prunes" instead of "Cheese" when taking a picture. 


8. Power of a sneeze

The speed of the air that blows out of your nose when you sneeze is 160 km per hour. 


9. The right Cranberry


To check the good cranberries, the growers drop each cranberry on a wooden platform. Only the good cranberries will bounce and not the bad ones. 




10. Northern hemisphere


90% of the world's population lives in the northern hemisphere.




11. Ketchup pills?


In the 1800s, Ketchup was considered a medicine and sold as pills across the United States. 



12. Inspiration for Pac Man


Pac-Man is one of the oldest arcade video games. The creator of the game Thoru Iwatani, said a slice off from a Pizza was the inspiration for Pac-Man. 




13. The heart of a blue whale


The heart of a blue whale is the size of a small car. Its beat can be heard from 2 miles away.



14. Dolphins call each other by names


Dolphins use special vocal whistles different from one another. These work as names to call each other.



15. Bubble wraps were wallpapers


Bubble wraps were meant to be used as wallpapers. It was designed by compressing two shower curtains together. 


 

16. The Facebook like button


At first, the like button of Facebook was supposed to be the 'Awesome' button. 


17. Lightning bolt and bread

A lightning bolt can toast up to 100,000 slices of bread. 


18. Rubber ducks in the ocean

In 1992, at least thirty thousand rubber ducks were dropped from a cargo ship during transportation. Even today, the ducks are being found by people from Australia to Alaska. 



19. The little hole in the padlock 

The little hole in a padlock is to drain the water if it's is left in the rain.


20. Roosters' built-in earplugs

To keep them from going deaf from their own noise, roosters have built-in earplugs.
